The months of April and May are the hottest months of the year where people get out of their homes and head to the beaches to enjoy the summer fun. The morning sun glaring in the sky is the perfect time to get the lovely tan people want and crave during the summer season. A lot of people from different walks of life head to the beaches to bask in the sun while enjoying the scenery and tranquility of the waters. The young crowd especially loves the beach to get a wonderful tan while the more mature crowd prefers a not so hot encounter by the shade.

Not all people love the beaches and the sun. Some are afraid to stay long under the sun for fear of sunburn or worse, skin cancer. Others don’t find the sun worshipping appealing though they would love to get a tan like the rest. For this type of people, the use of a self tanning lotion is an option for them to try without being left behind.

Self tanning lotions are readily available in beauty stores and supermarkets. Most of these self tanning lotions have dihydroxyacetone ingredient or commonly known as DHA that is responsible for the tanning process. Most of these come with moisturizers to prevent chaffing in the process. There are some times that when trying out the self tanning lotions for the first time, it’s either getting orange streaks or getting an uneven tan. To prevent these mishaps from happening, it is recommended to exfoliate your skin days before the application. Since dry skin absorbs the self tanning lotion faster, it is best to apply moisturizer as often as needed, especially to dry areas like elbows and knees to prevent an uneven color. Another mishap of using a self tanning lotion is getting orange hands. A pair of gloves can be used during application and then apply on hands to even out the color will do the trick.

The effectiveness of self tanning lotions depend on how these are applied. If applied according to instructions, it may last a few weeks. But if after following the instructions and still, your skin color remains the same, it means that the self tanning lotion used has exceeded its shelf life. Self tanning lotions are mostly used once a year so, if you have some of it left after application, don’t let it sit for more than 3 months. Using expired skin products like self tanning lotions can cause avoid skin irritation rather than the sun kissed glow you’re aiming for. Picking the right self tanning lotion is also a requirement, not an option. For the fair skinned, a self tanning lotion with a higher level of DHA concentration is best if aiming for the just pinched glow while for the naturally dark skinned a lesser DHA concentration works best.

Getting a tan has always been synonymous to summer sun and fun. So whether you stayed out in the sun to get a tan or used a self tanning lotion to get that just pinched glow, it’s never an ordeal as long as you’re having fun and you love the glow of your body.
